Francesco Di Paola

Francesco Di Paola is an Engineer, PhD in "Representation and Surveying of Architecture and Environment"; from 2014, he is qualified to the functions of Associate Professor, 08/E1-Drawing at the Architecture Department, University of Palermo. He is an expert in the latest ICT (AR/VR/MR) and digital survey technologies, applied in the field of innovative fruition management and representation of the architectural and artistic cultural heritage. He is Scientific Head of its Digital Fabrication Laboratory (FabLAB). From 2012 to 2016 he was Director of the Department: "e-Infrastructures & ICT" at the Euro-Mediterranean Institute for Science and Technology (IEMEST).

His research interests are mainly topics in the field of Architectural Geometry, Computer Graphic, Algorithms Aided Design, Survey, Preservation and Fruition of Cultural Heritage, 3D Print. In 2019, he received the "Matteo Dellepiane award" as best paper entitled: High Quality Texture Mapping Process aimed at the optimization of 3D Structured Light models, on the 8th International Workshop 3D-ARCH "3D Virtual Reconstruction and Visualization of Complex Architectures", Bergamo, Italy. 

He is a member of technical scientific committees of several international conferences and an active member of international research associations. Since 2023, he has been a member of the Editorial board of the UNIPA/SPRINGER Series. In 2020, he is MDPI Guest Editor of the Special Issue on Gaming Approach for Cultural Heritage Knowledge and Dissemination, for the open access journal Sustainability (ISSN 2071-1050). Visiting Professor and Invited Speaker in a wide number of international contexts, his research results have been the subject of more than 110 publications in scientific journals, proceedings of national/international scientific papers and monographs.
